I Am Going to Bali

going to bali

Yes! I am going to Bali in May, and I am already so excited that I need to blog it. At the meantime, before I leave for Bali, I have been reading up information on how to enjoy all the fun things in Bali and I will put together the information I have found so that you who are reading need not have to compile them. I am so thoughtful, yay.

Saving on Air Tickets

First thing first when I decide to go overseas, I have to as much as possible reduce the amount of the Air tickets and Accommodation. This two item usually took up the most percentage of my oversea trip budget. So naturally, I will try my best to reduce them.

I always look out for cheap tickets all year round and once the chance come, I will surely book it. I am not really concern about the flight if it is just a few hours in the sky. All that matter is the cost. This time round, for my Bali trip, can you guess how much I paid for two tickets by Jetstar?

As you can see, after adding the booking and service fee, each person is less than SGD$150 which to me is already very low. I believe there are people out there who can get a cheaper rate but I am already satisfied. And it means I am one step nearer to Bali. OMG!

Accommodation

Just few days ago, I decided on my accommodation. I actually booked a one bedroom villa for the first time in my life. Previous overseas trip are all cheap hotels. And I cant forget the hotel we stayed in Krabi which got me around 7 mosquitoes on one side of my face the next morning. So accommodation is really important.  After much persuading done to J, I finally got an approval. His concern for a villa is of cause the cost and he don’t like a room too big and empty, it is sometimes scary when the whole big empty space only occupy two people. But all is approved. Even though we decided on a villa, I still budget it to be below SGD$200 during selection. And let me show you where I will be staying.

The exterior with a not so big pool overlooking the interior

astana bed

The bed that looks comfy and the wooden flooring.

astana bathtub

The big bathtub which keep me wondering how not to get the floor wet.

For now, I just show you these until I come back from Bali and I will definitely take more photos of the villa.

Oh ya, and I have to tell you how much the villa cost per night. It is around SGD$180 per night and the villa is 5 minutes walk to the beach and situated in Semiyak, a little bit away from the crowded area.

Which area to stay in Bali

We go back a little bit to share with you how I choose where to stay in Bali with so many different beaches and villa available.Bali area map

The map shows the different major cities of Bali. I will explain which area is suitable for what type of holidays you looking for.

Kuta

The most happening beach is here and good for wind surfing with all the high waves and strong currents. All the night life and shopping are here. Traffics are busy here. It is the nearest to airport too. Me and J won’t like it here since we are not the most happening people around, we prefer quieter place.

Legian

Legian has easy access to Kuta and slightly less chaotic than Kuta. If you want to enjoy the goods of Kuta but want to stay somewhere further, this is the place.

Seminyak

This is the area I choose to stay. It is where most of the private villas are and said to be the best area for shopping . It is quieter than Kuta and Legian.

Sanur

This is where all the tourist gather 25 years ago with all the international hotels. The beach has further deteriorated. I would not choose this place after hearing this.

Nusa Dua

Nusa Dua is where all the 5 stars resort are with gorgeous pool and world class facilities. There is also a 18-hole golf course here.Very peaceful area but also mean more expensive.

Ubud

Ubud is the most inland away from the beaches but it is also the most cultural and artistic city of Bali. It is said to be the real Bali and people who never visit Ubud never really consider that you have visited Bali. If you choose to stay around this area, you will get to be surounded by the paddy field which the city goers hardly have chance to see. Very close to nature but it also mean mosquitoes will be around you all time. My top enemy on the list and you know why I never choose to stay here. From what I see, the accommodation are cheaper around here and more isolated and harder to find.

Lovina

Coastal area in Bali with its famous black beaches and dolphin watching and snorkeling. Lovina is not in the map above but if you wanna know, it is at the north area nearer to Singaraja.

Hopes you get a clearer picture of what to choose.

Things to do

I have also shortlist some of the thing I want to do in Bali

1) Tanah Lot - If I can only choose one tourist attraction in Bali this is the one. Watch sunset there

Tanah lot sunset

But, I recently heard about a Tanah Lot myth from my colleague about the island being curse upon, that unmarried couples who visited will break up shortly after. This happened to her within three months. She advise me to reconsider going. I think I am still going.

2) Jimbaran Beach – Having seafood dinner along the beach while watching sunset. It is a tourist area and price will be tourist, but being tourist I wanna try it. Seem like advise is to go for the more people one or any of these – Lia Cafe, Menega Cafe.

3) Food to eat – Naughty Nuri’s Warung for pork ribs near our villa

-Babi Guling (not the famous one)

- Satay Skewer

-Dirty Duck

I wanttttt to eat alottttt after seeing all the food picture while surfing online. I am hungry! Wait for my photos when I am back from Bali.
